Several types of acne treatments are useful for the treatment of scarring from acne. Scars can be a devastating result of acne from both the teenage years and adult acne.
Chemical Peel Acne Treatments
Chemical peels use the application of an acid to the skin needing acne removal treatment. This causes the top layer of the skin to slough off and stimulate new skin. Acids range in strength from mild – which can be applied at home or in a spa acne treatment procedure to much stronger acne scar treatment acids which must be applied by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon.
The milder acid treatments can be considered to be a natural acne treatment method as they are composed of fruit acids such as beta hydroxy or alpha hydroxy acids. These types of acid peel acne treatments are also used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Dermabrasion Acne Treatment Techniques
Microdermabrasion is the process of using a machine to exfoliate the top layer of skin. Microdermabrasion is used for mild acne scarring and must be repeated occasionally. It may be performed by a doctor or aesthetician or by a person at home using a home acne treatment.
Actual dermabrasion involves the removal of more of the skin by essentially sanding off skin layers with a dermabrasion tool. It is thought to stimulate collagen and new skin formation resulting in acne treatment for scarring. It is generally painful, produces redness and swelling and must involve some type of anesthesia. Dermabrasion acne procedures require a week or more of recovery time and though it is not useful for deep pitted scars, it can be used for severe acne treatment.
Laser Acne Treatments
Also sometimes called light acne treatment, laser skin resurfacing works to destroy deeper acne scar tissue with few effects on the top layers of the skin. Laser acne treatments work by using focused light to stimulate collagen formation and encourage skin regeneration from underneath. It is also useful for reducing redness of acne scars. This type of acne cure treatment will involve little pain, minimal redness or swelling and any adverse effects will usually only last for a few days.
Surgical Cystic Acne Treatments
Performed under local anesthesia, surgical acne treatment can be used to correct severe, deep scars. During surgical acne treatment, which is a type of acne cosmetic surgery, scar tissue may be removed with the normal skin being sutured back together. For particularly severe acne spot treatments, a tissue or skin graft may be placed to support skin tissues which have sunk deep into the face
Home Acne Treatments
If scarring is not yet a problem, home acne treatments using acne topical treatment agents such as creams containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid may help to prevent future scarring or the use of a photo acne treatment using exposure to certain types of light.
A consultation with a dermatologist or other type of physician may be required for cystic acne treatment and hormonal acne treatment to prevent the need for cosmetic acne scar treatment.
Acne before and after pictures offered by a physician or aesthetician may show proof of both acne treatment clearing methods and acne scar treatment methods. A physician who is experienced at treating either the occurrence of acne or the cosmetic improvement of resulting scars will be able to fully explain your acne treatment options and expectations for improvement.
