Treating scars usually involve a series of bodily processes that makes way for the wounds to heal naturally. When the immune system overreacts in its effort to close the wound, it produces too much skin in an effort to close it. This is the main reason for the appearance of scars. With Juvista, scientists found a way to make closing the wounds faster without driving the immune system to overcompensate.

Juvista may be administered to the wounded area to help the skin tissues heal faster. The sooner that the drug is injected to the skin near the wounds, the better effect it will have it reducing permanent damage. Juvista may also be administered before an operation to ensure that the skin will heal as smoothly as possible. Studies done about the effects of the drug has specifed satisfactory long-term and short-term effects.

The drug uses an ingredient called Transforming Growth Factor B3, which is a protein that can usually be found in embryonic wounds and skin. TGFB3 works using the same principle as healing embryos in minimizing wound effects.
